This story is like a fairy tale. On September 26, 1634, King Wladyslaw IV solemnly entered Lviv. On the balcony of the townhouse on the Market Square, where Baczewski later sold his vodka (now Rynok Square 31), the king noticed a beautiful girl, from whom it was difficult to look away. And the 39-year-old, still unmarried, king erupted in great love – for life!
Jadwiżka was the daughter of a bankrupt merchant, her mother had just been released from prison for debts. The king not only paid all her debts, but also took her with him to Warsaw. Jadwiżka lived in the royal palace until the king married. His wife Cecilia Renata from the Habsburgs had no idea about the secret of the royal heart, but when the awl came out of the bag, she insisted that the girl had left Warsaw, having entered into a fictitious marriage with a certain Vypysky. The king bought an estate for her in Merecz (Lithuania), where no one prevented him from making love to a beautiful girl from Lviv. Eventually, there, in Merecz, the king died on May 20, 1648. Admittedly, he slept in the arms of his beloved Jadwiżka…
